Back to School Shopping
The best places to shop for back to school clothing, backpacks, stationery and technology in Kamloops
September 6, 2022 marks the first day back to school for School District 73 students. It can be a lot of work for parents to make sure kids are ready to go. Usually around late August I do an inventory of the kids clothing and supplies. My kids are pretty hard on their things so after a year of wear and tear most things have to be replaced. I enjoy going shopping with my kids for shoes, clothing and backpacks and usually try to make an event out of it. It’s an opportunity to teach the kids to budget, but I also love seeing that they have their own style and know what they like. My least favorite aspect of back to school shopping is school supplies. I have been very pleased that most schools now do not give out supply lists and rather just have the option of paying a fee via the school and they will purchase all the supplies for you. The fee is usually well worth it, especially when you consider not having to go to 3 different stores to find 1.75 inch binders!
Here’s the list of the best places in Kamloops to go for back to school shopping:
Clothing
For younger kids and basics Old Navy is always a great choice. I also find some great deals as Children’s Place and Carter’s. For Teen’s a pre teens Zumiez, West 49 and One Boardshop. If you are looking for a deal it is always worth checking the racks at Winner’s.
Shoes
Shoes are one thing I am willing to spend a little extra money. Marshall’s is my go to for stylish shoes for kids. Costco usually has a couple styles of shoes in each month a really great prices. When it comes to rubber boots and snow boots Walmart is always stocked.
Bags
Sports check has some really good quality brand name sports bags and backpacks. Winner’s and Marshall’s have backpacks and lunch boxes. Bentley at Aberdeen Mall has the best selection of backpacks in town. Bentley also sells Jansport brand backpacks which come with a lifetime guarantee!
Stationery
My hack for stationery is the dollar store. You can find really cute notebooks, agenda’s, folders, pens, pencils, scissors and other supplies for unbeatable prices. I bought a 2022 planner from the dollar store and can report that despite carrying it around in my bag and using it almost everyday it is still holding up and well worth the 4$ price tag. If you are looking for higher quality items I would suggest Michael’s or Staples. Chapters has expensive but very well curated selection of office supplies.
Technology
Computers, Ipad, laptops and even calculators can really break your back to school budget. If you are looking for a basic piece I would suggest Walmart where you can get some very competitive pricing. However, if you need a better quality item Best Buy is always a good choice, especially when you consider their Geek Squad Tech Support. Also keep an eye out for deals from Costco and London Drugs.
