Keto in Kamloops: 3 places to shop

The Ketogenic diet has been extremely popular over the last 5 years. The diet consists of eating a low carb, high fat, moderate protein and no sugar. Individuals who can maintain the diet can lose a large amount of weight in a relatively short period of time. Some people love the diet and others hate it. For myself eating Ketogenically is the only diet I can stick to long term and maintain a healthy weight.

Unfortunately there is no one stop shop in Kamloops for Keto. In the lower mainland I had a boutique Keto store down the road and a low carb grocery store 45 minutes away. When I moved to Kamloops I spent a lot of time going to different grocery stores to find the Keto necessities I needed to get me through cravings and keep me on track. If you are eating super clean Keto you can find your produce, meats, eggs and sauces at any grocery store. But if you are like me you are probably going to want some bake goods, keto friendly breads or even some keto friendly pasta substitutes. Here is my list of the three best grocery stores in Kamloops to shop for your Keto needs.

  1. Nature’s Fare. A little on the pricey side Nature’s Fare in Sahali caters to healthy eating. If you are not in to reading labels they have a lot of their Keto products marked with a Keto friendly sticker. My absolute favorite Keto treat is NutiLight, a no sugar added Nutella dupe. They also have a great selection of Keto pasta substitutes, baking flours, pizza crusts and Keto friendly ice creams and bars. Nature’s Fare is first on this list as it has the most selection.

  2. Costco. Surprisingly Costco is on the Keto bandwagon and in true Costco style you get a lot of product for your purchase. Costco sells Keto Crackers, Keto Granola and some very satisfying Keto Chocolate Muffins from the bakery. My favorite Keto product from Costco is Rao’s Marinara Sauce. You can get a 3 pack of sauces for around the price they charge for a single jar at Nature’s Fare. The only set back is that, like so many products there, it is not always in stock and could always get discontinued.

  3. Walmart. We often do not associate Walmart with healthy eating but they do carry a few Keto Products and the ones they do carry are really good. The Keto friendly bread and wraps by Orowheat are hands down my favorite choice for Keto Friendly Bread. They also have a section (beside the pharmacy) with several Keto Products including MCT oils, Keto strips for testing if you are in Ketosis and protein powders. I find that Walmart has the best prices on protein powders and they carry Slim Fast brand products which are labelled as Keto Friendly.

There is no one stop shop for Keto in Kamloops, but these are the 3 places I continually find myself going. As a bonus I will add that Winner’s and Marshall’s carry bottles of sugar free coffee syrups that are Keto friendly. Still being able to have coffee on the Keto diet is definitely something that makes Keto work for me. The thing about being successful on Keto is to stick to your macros. At the end of the day anything is Keto if it fits within your macros. Just because something says it is Keto does not mean it is (I am looking at you baked goods).

If Keto is something you are interested in doing I suggest googling and watching some YouTube videos to explain the diet. Another truly great thing about Keto is that you do not have to spend any money to learn the diet or buy an expensive meal plan. I hope my experience helps. Happy Keto-ing Kamloops.
